Clarification of the Bentley Golf Teams:

For the benefit of those members not aware of the team competitions entered by Bentley, the following notes should help summarise the main competitions, rules and formats. Team captains will be placing notices for those interested in participating, detailing relevant practices and trials.

There is also a very active Veteran’s section who play matches throughout the season against other clubs in the area and all members of the section are eligible to play, each match comprising 8 better-ball four-balls at 90% handicap difference. Thornton Challenge Cup
The premier knock-out competition played on Sundays with a team comprising of 10 players. Matchplay - 5 foursomes played in the morning followed by 10 singles in the afternoon. All played off scratch and therefore places are contested by the best players in the club (i.e. lowest handicaps)
 
Leslie F Wood Championship
Played on Sundays to the same format as the Thornton Cup, except the players must have a LOW handicap index of 6.0 or above on the required date to be eligible.
 
Norman Plum Trophy
Normally played on Sundays. Knock out format is four-ball better-ball,90% handicap difference with 12 players per team, open to handicap index ranges of Pool A (11.0 to 17.5) or Pool B (handicap index ranges 17.6 -24.0) on the Monday before the match. Minimum of two players from each Pool  6 playing at home and 6 away.
 
Jubilee Cup
Played on Saturday or Sundays. Initially league format. Matchplay format is 6 singles (minimum handicap index 12) effectively played off scratch and 3 pairs (minimum handicap index 17) played off handicaps.
 
Over 55s Seniors Team Championship
Played on weekdays. Format is 11 match play singles played off full handicap difference, maximum handicap index allowed is 15.0. Players must be over 55 on the closing date of the previous round (or on 1st March for 1st round matches).
 
John Day Trophy
Played on weekdays and on the same format as the Over 55s but with 9 players in the team and open for club members whose Handicap Indexes are within the range of 11.0 to 24.0 on the Sunday before the match. All players must be over 55 based on the same date cut-offs as the Seniors Team Championship. Note: Players who compete in this competition cannot play in the Over 55s and vice versa.
 
John Day Trophy
Played on weekdays and on the same format as the Over 55s but with 9 players in the team and open for cat3 and cat4 players (handicaps 13-28) All players must be over 55. Read more
